A high-quality crib mattress is essential for your baby’s health and proper development. But let’s be honest: a mattress isn’t exactly the most visually-appealing nursery accessory. But Colgate wants to know: why do safety and style have to be mutually exclusive?
While the EverTrue Diamond is Colgate’s latest addition to the “Total Safe Sleep System” line of mattresses, the innovative Nuzzle Snuze was the mattress line that began it all. The Nuzzle Snuze has revolutionary safety, comfort, and health features — not to mention fantastic designs.
Did you miss the unveiling of this line back in February 2014? No worries! Here are some things to know about the crib mattress that brings you safety and style.
Our Director of Sales, Dennis Wolkin, said it best: “A mattress is one of the three most essential things for the healthy growth and development of a baby and toddler. But let’s face it, they look like white rectangles and are not as attractive or appealing as many baby items. We have changed this.”
The Colgate Nuzzle Snuze is available in specialty stores around the country. Find the location closest to you here.
You may have seen our newest mattress, the EverTrue Diamond, part of our EverTrue mattress line, in a few holiday gift guides this year. We’d love to tell you more about it, and why it’s the perfect holiday gift for expecting, new or tenured moms!
First, let’s explore why a quality crib mattress is vital for the health of your baby. In a previous post, we explained that a quality, firm mattress not only helps baby sleep longer and deeper, but also supports brain and bone development. Safe sleeping practices, proper environmental condition,s and a quality mattress can all help to prevent deadly sleep disorders like SIDS.
Therefore, the gift of safety is priceless this holiday season!
So, what is the EverTrue Diamond?
The EverTrue Diamond (ETD) is our latest addition to Colgate’s “total safe sleep system” mattresses. This mattress consists of three exclusive components that ensure enhanced airflow and improved oxygenation for the baby:
Here at Colgate, we have a long and renowned history of leading the industry in innovative products to enhance sleep and safety. We truly believe that our EverTrue Diamond is the Cadillac of safe crib mattresses! It’s the only product in the EverTrue line offering the Celliant cover and Diamond-channel Cool Gel and retails for $349.98. (www.evertruemattress.com)

The holidays are officially coming, so it’s time to start searching for that perfect gift for your friends and family. Although a crib mattress might not seem like an obvious gift choice, oftentimes expectant parents leave purchasing a crib mattress to the last minute in the frenzy of getting ready for a new baby. Considering a crib mattress is where an infant will spend 70% of his/ her time, giving a high-quality crib mattress is truly a unique, precious present for your loved ones.
Apparently, we’re not the only ones who think a crib mattress could make the perfect holiday gift. This year, we are thrilled that one of our most iconic mattresses, the Eco Classica I, is included in Go Adventure Mom’s annual holiday gift guide. Check it out on page 5!
The Eco Classica I is the eco-friendlier version of the most recognized foam crib mattress on the market, Colgate’s Classica I. Covered in organic cotton, this revolutionary mattress is not only environmentally friendly, but it also provides the necessary support and comfort your little one. This multiple award-winning, extra firm crib mattress is lightweight, waterproof, tear-resistant, and non-allergenic.
With that said, we have to agree when Go Adventure Mom says, “When baby sleeps well, everyone sleeps well. This high quality, firm mattress makes it happen.”

A good mattress not only makes bedtime something to look forward to, but it also supports your little one’s growing bones and ensures safety while sleeping.
Here at Colgate Mattress, we know that selecting your baby’s first mattress can be an overwhelming task; that’s why we pride ourselves on helping you understand the differences between mattresses and know what features are most important. Take a look at these quick tips as you begin to determine how to choose a crib mattress that is just right for your little one:
Look for quality
Whether you’re searching for a foam or innerspring mattress, look for quality. The cheapest foam and innerspring mattresses have thin, vinyl coverings that can tear or crack easily. As prices increase, coverings tend to be thicker, puncture-resistant, and reinforced laminates. In addition, for innerspring mattresses, you want to choose a mattress with thick coils. For both types of mattresses, the general rule is: the firmer, the better.
You can’t tell a mattress by its cover
With a mattress, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Understanding the different components inside the mattress is essential for your baby’s safety and comfort. For instance, are there any cushioning layers? What materials are used? Is there a flammability barrier? Is there waterproof backing? There’s much more to a mattress than just the white cover (or, if you’re thinking of purchasing the Nuzzle Snuze, the squiggle cover!)
Examine the Labels
One place to start? The label. Manufacturers are required by law to reveal what a mattress is made of. Don’t buy a mattress from a manufacturer or retailer that doesn’t tell you this information through the label, in-store displays, or online specifications. In fact, you should be able to find out the components of each individual layer, from cover to cover.
If possible, buy a new crib mattress. Not only does it ensure the mattress is sanitary, but you also won’t have to worry about how it was previously used or stared. One exception to the rule: if you a buy a new mattress for your first child, keep it clean, and store it in a dry environment (consider Colgate’s storage bag),then you can use it for your next child.
Recently, Colgate Mattress was featured on the Better Show in New York City. We were joined by Child Safety Expert, Sandra Gordon, author of Consumer Reports: Best Baby Products. Discussing how to furnish a baby nursery on a budget, Gordon gave expert tips about swaddlers, changing pads, artwork, and bedding.
The one thing to splurge on in your nursery? Your crib mattress.
According to Gordon, “It’s a really overlooked item, and people tend to buy the least expensive option out there. But, you really want to buy a high-quality mattress because your baby will spend up to 18 hours sleeping on it.”
She goes on to mention Colgate’s EverTrue Diamond: our revolutionary dual-firmness mattress that focuses on the baby’s microclimate inside the crib. With the EverTrue Diamomd, your baby’s temperature will be stable, and they’ll have a restful, safe sleep on our extra firm foam.
There’s a major trend in culture right now called crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing is the idea that there is great value in utilizing the skills, abilities and opinions of others around us for things we need, whether it’s places to stay, rides to work, or creating a design for a logo. Crowdsourcing has become very popular with services like Kickstarter, and Indiegogo, and lots of companies and products have been birthed from these sites alone.
Now, if you’re headed out of town, you don’t have to stay at a hotel for $100, you can find a guest room for $40 on AirBNB. Instead of paying $50 for a cab-ride to the airport, you can use services like Lyft or UBER to get there for half the price. And Lyft utilizes normal folks sharing their vehicle. Threadless uses crowdsourcing to help identify new designers for the t-shirts they print. Quirky uses crowd-sourcing to find new inventors to produce new products that are voted on by their audience, who then buy these items on their website and places like Target and Beth, Bath and Beyond. Crowdsourcing and the sharing economy is literally changing the way things are created and we do business everyday.
Another example of this crowdsourcing is the popular site Belly Ballot, which leverages a user’s friends to help them choose a name for the upcoming new additions to their families. You pick your five favorite baby names, you invite your friends and family to vote on their name choices, and then announce your winner on Facebook and Twitter. It has been featured on NPR, NBC’s Today Show, as well as Parents Magazine and US Today, as well as others. Lots of couples love the way Belly Ballot makes their friends a part of this very special decision, and parents have a lot of fun with it. We recently supported them by donating a mattress to their giveaway.
Last week, Alan and Dennis had the chance to sit down with Business RadioX and share the Colgate Mattress story, and why we’re so passionate about making the best crib mattresses on the market. Take a listen for yourself on their radio website and let us know what you think!
