Colgate Mattress was on hand this past Saturday, October 10, 2015 to support the fifth annual Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta Bed Race and 5K Pajama Run. Proceeds from the race and 5K will help provide furniture to people who were recently homeless, women escaping domestic violence, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
“In Atlanta, over 40 percent of the homeless are women and children, with around 42 percent of those children ages six and under,” said Alan Wolkin, president of Colgate Mattress. "We believe that every child-- especially infants --should have a safe bed to sleep in, so the Furniture Bank’s mission is close to our hearts.”
Following the 5K, teams of five were given a twin bed on wheels and were tasked with choosing a theme and costumes to take part in the parade of beds; and then raced down the street. The Colgate Rambling Rug Rats decorated their bed as a crib, naturally, and set off to race.
The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta was founded in 1988 in response to the lack of furniture resources for previously homeless people who secure housing. Furniture Bank is the only agency in metro Atlanta whose mission is to provide free furniture to people in need, and ensures clients and each of their children have a bed to sleep on.
