Colgate Mattress: The Changing Pad Specialist? Why Yes!

We receive a lot of email and calls concerning our changing pads.

Yes, even though we are the crib mattress specialist, we should also be known as the changing pad specialist as well.

Many calls are thanking us for adding another dimension to furniture by converting almost any piece of furniture into a diaper changing station. Most new moms tell us they buy at least two changing pads for different areas of their homes.

Colgate makes many different types of changing pads, 2-sided, 3 sided, Hi-Rise, Eco-friendly, and anti-microbial changing pads.

We do not make a four sided changing pad because Colgate believes one side needs to be open for, let’s just say to try to make the diaper changing experience as fast as possible by allowing for fast access to areas in need of cleaning. As for safety, our changing pads have many added features including firm sides to hold your child in place, a buckle and strap system, and, depending on your purchase, screws or snaps to secure your pad to your furniture.

As for cleaning, the changing pads just need to wipe down with a damp towel. All changing pads also give parents further peace of mind because all of our changing pads are GREENGUARD® certified and our foam is CertiPUR-US® certified.

Please let us know if you have had a “fun” experience during diaper changing time using a Colgate changing pad. New mom Julie B. from Doraville, GA called us last week to thank us and tell a fun filled diaper changing story and how thankful she was for how fast the changing pad was cleaned. If you have a fun diaper changing story, please do not hesitate to contact us or Facebook us to tell the story.

Crib Notes: Educate Yourself Before Buying a Mattress

The juvenile industry calls us “the crib mattress specialist” for a number of reasons including the fact that Colgate is one of the only manufacturers that specializes in making only crib mattresses, pads, and the accessories that fit on them and not other unrelated baby products.

Another reason we are called the “Specialist” is because Colgate is often used for reference when people want to know or write about crib mattresses.  Here is a recent article from Consumer Search which deals with what to look for when buying a crib mattress:

Kind Words from The Daily GoodieBag

From our friends at The Daily GoodieBag:

Some of you may remember an awesome giveaway we did a few months ago, where we gave away an organic crib mattress and several organic mattress covers (thanks to the wonderful people at Colgate Mattress). Within the giveaway post, I wrote about my wonderful experience with one of their crib mattresses – The Organic Eco Classica. I still stand by my statement that it’s an AMAZING crib mattress. My daughter LOVED it! Notice I used the word loved, as in past tense. Oh it’s not that she stopped loving it, it’s that we had a wee bit of an accident. Read the rest of this article >>

Colgate Founders 60thAnniversary grande

After almost 60 years, we finally decided to get that facelift.

Everyone wants to look their best, right? Even a crib mattress company that’s been making the world’s best crib mattresses since 1955. We spend so much time focused on our legendary products, we found ourselves neglecting our own brand.

It’s like that old adage about the cobbler’s kids wearing shoes with holes in them. We realized that it was time for a marketing facelift so the brand feels as innovative as our products.

Step one, a new logo. Below you can see a before and after picture.

Step two, a new website chocked-full of useful information to educate parents on the importance of a high-quality crib mattress. While other manufacturers are treading water and slashing their marketing budgets, we decided to take the opposite approach and further establish ourselves as The Crib Mattress Specialist™.

After all, our third generation family business has never been one to take the easy path. On behalf of our family and our proud employees who make every last mattress right here in America, we are so excited to unveil our new look.

We love hearing from our customers and friends so message us on Facebook, shoot us an email or pick up the phone and call us. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Colgate, here are a few facts that might be of interest to you:

  • For over 15 years, Colgate has been rated either #1 or received an A rating in the Baby Bargains Book.
  • Colgate has won the Readers Choice Award every year from 2005-2011 from Baby and Children’s Product News.
  • Colgate was awarded Manufacturer of the Year by the National Infant Nursery Furniture Retailers Association.
  • Colgate was voted Manufacturer of the Year multiple times by the Baby Furniture Plus Association of independent juvenile specialty stores.

The Martha Stewart Show on Baby Nurseries

We’ve always said that customers who have an appreciation for craftsmanship and quality can truly appreciate all that goes into our crib mattresses. So who better to prove our point than Martha Stewart who’s eye for detail and high standards have made her legendary? Here is a clip from a segment The Martha Stewart Show did about baby nurseries and some of her favorite products including one of our very own crib mattresses. We couldn’t be prouder of our products and our people so receiving press like this just makes all of our hard work that much more rewarding.

Crib Mattress Firmness

Of all the products in the nursery that expectant parents need to purchase, the crib mattress is arguably the most important one. It is on the crib mattress that the baby will grow and develop. Because the needs of a newborn are different than an adult’s, a quality crib mattress most likely will be firmer than what a new parent might think it should be. We hear this lament rather frequently: “Oh, that crib mattress is too hard. I wouldn’t want to sleep on that!”

That may be true for a fully-grown adult who is looking for a comfortable night’s sleep. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Consumer Products Safety Commission and First Candle (formerly the SIDS Alliance) all recommend a firm, snug-fitting sleep surface for your baby (see links below). A baby’s body grows while it sleeps. The majority of their sleep time will take place in the crib on the mattress.

Also, the crib is generally the place where they start to use their large muscle groups. By having a firm mattress, it will provide resistance so that those muscles will be able to develop to their full potential. Eventually an infant will begin to stand in their crib. Their little legs are already wobbly. Having a firm foundation will help their leg muscles develop so that they will be more stable. For a baby, the mattress is more than a sleep surface. It’s also the place they will start to move about and explore the new world around them. Having a firm mattress will help aid in this process.
