We Make the Safest Crib Mattress
Truth About Organic
Over the past decade both consumers and manufacturers have reevaluated the impact they’re having on the environment. Never before have there been so many green products on the market. At Colgate Mattress®, we take exception when companies intentionally mislead consumers and capitalize off of the public’s desire to be environmentally responsible and market products that aren’t truly Green.
Currently, there is no industry-wide standard for qualifying a crib mattress as being natural or organic. At Colgate Mattress, we hold ourselves to a higher standard than our industry. We believe any mattress that claims to be natural, green, organic or eco-friendly should have a greater percentage of green components than traditional components. Last we checked, there’s no such thing as biodegradable metal innersprings. We choose to call our natural products “Eco-Friendlier” in order to be transparent with our customers. Make sure the crib mattress company you choose is giving you verifiable facts versus simply upselling you on a more expensive model.
The Importance of a Firm Crib Mattress
Newborns develop rapidly over the first two years, which is why our Colgate Mattress crib mattresses are designed to cater to an infant’s growth. Unlike adults, an infant’s mattress is more than a sleeping surface, it is their growth and developmental center. During sleeping periods, an infant needs a firm, flat, even surface to maximize his or her development. This is particularly important when the infant becomes more active in the crib. They need a firm surface to provide the resistance as they begin to push up, turn and eventually stand in the crib. A solid mattress base provides the resistance necessary for developing and strengthening muscles. Ask yourself this: Is it easier for an adult to walk on a wooden floor or a waterbed? That is the same concept when an infant begins to stand in the crib.
Breathable Baby & Crib Mattresses
One of the latest innovations in crib mattress design involves breathability or the ability to enhance airflow. A well-designed, breathable mattress creates an internal microclimate that can both cool or warm baby, depending on the environment, thanks to internal air circulation. The most breathable mattresses are those that allow air to freely circulate inside the mattress as well as allow outside air to pass into the mattress.
Natural & Eco-Friendly Crib Mattresses
Colgate Mattress recognizes that we have a responsibility not only to parents to produce environmentally friendly products, but also a responsibility to our community and planet to continually look for ways to be a more eco-conscious manufacturer and minimize our footprint. Here are some of the ways that we are doing that:
Limited Lifetime Product Warranty
At Colgate Mattress, we stand behind the integrity and craftsmanship we put into all of our products. While we’re very proud of our quality control, on rare occasions manufacturers’ defects do occur. We offer a product warranty that is a conditional warranty. Here’s what that means: The warranty is to the original purchaser who provides proof of purchase for as long as they own the mattress.
Flame & Fire Retardant Crib Mattresses
No topic is more near and dear to our hearts than the safety of children. That’s why our family has always chosen to use non-toxic barrier fabrics instead of harsh fire retardant chemicals to give parents peace of mind. Our products not only meet, but exceed federal flammability standards. Each crib mattress is put through a stringent testing program, ensuring a safe night’s sleep for both you and your baby.
Dream Safe: Promoting Safe Sleep Practices
As parents, we will do anything to protect and bring comfort to our new bundle of joy. We buy the latest car seats and strollers, invest in state-of-the-art monitors and even download special mobile apps. We purchase organic products and give extra care and attention to the food they eat – whatever it takes to keep baby healthy, happy and safe.
The threat of losing a baby unexpectedly is a harsh reality that can keep every parent awake at night. And unfortunately, more than 2,000 babies in the US die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) each year. That’s why Colgate Mattress created DREAM SAFE. Through practical tips and expert advice, our goal is to educate and encourage caregivers to adopt lifesaving safe sleep practices. Together, we can save thousands of lives and ensure both you and baby, enjoy sweet dreams.
Crib Mattress Care
When subjected to prolonged moisture, any natural fiber is a candidate for mold – especially products manufactured with natural fiber. Humidity, high temperatures, darkness, and stagnant air can all contribute. Therefore, it’s important to inspect your new crib mattress upon receipt to ensure that there aren’t any signs of mold that could have developed while in transit to you. Should you find any signs of mold, please contact our customer service team at [email protected].
Follow these care and maintenance tips to help ensure your mattress stays fresh and clean for years to come:
Remove Stains
Using a bit of water and some hypoallergenic laundry detergent or mild soap, scrub the surface of the mattress gently using a soft bristle brush or washcloth.
Rinse Thoroughly
Then use clean warm water and a damp cloth to rinse the mattress. Don’t pour water or detergent directly onto the mattress.
Dry Completely
Lastly, use a dry towel to gently absorb as much water as possible to make drying-out quicker. If the weather is nice, set the mattress in a room with all the windows open to get fresh air—ideally place the mattress in direct sunlight for several hours. If you’re spot cleaning after spit-up or a diaper accident, use a hair dryer for 10-15 minutes on the treated spot to dry. Always ensure the crib mattress is completely dry before putting it back in the crib and covering. Even a damp mattress can develop mold and mildew.
